One Week Into the Season
After having the NHL season delayed for a little over four months, it is refreshing to be in this position right now where we realize that we are already one week into the season. There have been some surprises so far, some disapointments, and a few shockers here and there.
Just how different is this first week of the shortened season compared to a regular 82-game schedule?
Follow me after the jump for some bulletpoints
My personal observations from week 1, are as follows:
- Teams with players that have been playing in the AHL and over seas (Boston, Edmonton, Toronto, etc.) have gotten off to a better start
- Injuries have started rolling in (Bertuzzi, Asham, Meszaros, Hartnell, etc.)
- Henrik Lundqvist has been Henrik Lundqvist
- Claude Giroux has had a good start in his first few games wearing the 'C'
- Carolina's investments have not paid off yet
- Washington is still winless, time for change?
- NY Rangers do not look like Stanley Cup contenders, but give them at least 10 games before you judge
- Having said that, give everyone 10 games before you judge
- Toronto lost Lupul for one month+, big loss
- NJ Devils look like they do not miss Parise...once again, judge after 10 games.
