Confederations Cup Predictions

The 2013 Fifa Confederations Cup is set to begin today in a match between Brazil and Japan. The host Brazil will be looking to use this tournament as a warm-up before next years World Cup.

After the jump, I will share my predictions and thoughts.

Below are the two groups via FIFA.

Group A
Brazil
Mexico
Italy
Japan

Group B
Spain
Uruguay
Tahiti
Nigeria

My predictions of who gets out of the group are as follows:

Group A
1. Brazil
2. Italy

Group B
1. Uruguay
2. Spain

Random Thoughts

- The Confederations Cup has most likely never had to be taken as seriously as it is this time around by Neymar and Brazil. First of all, Brazil is hosting the tournament and using it as a preview for what they will bring one year from now in the World Cup. Second of all, Neymar (Jr.) is also using this stage to show the world and Barcelona what he is capable of doing.

- Uruguay will finish above Spain because they have more to play for. Spain has achieved so much the past couple of years/tournaments that they will not be as desperate to succeed. Uruguay is also playing on its own continent and would love to bring Brazil some pain, just like they did in the 1950 World Cup when they upset they upset Brazil in the final.

- Mexico will have a dissapointing performance as it will become obvious that its back line is getting older by the minute.

- Spain will tie at least one game during the group stages.
