NHL Trade Deadline: Acquisitions Worth Mentioning.

Today, the NHL Trade Deadline ended at 3PM Eastern Time.

In anticipation of it, there were a decent amount of trades that took place over the last week or so.

Follow me after the jump to read about some of the trades that I would like to chime in on:

Marian Gaborik to Columbus
- In what was the biggest trade of the day, Marian Gaborik was sent to Columbus for Derek Dorsett, Derick Brassard, and John Moore. Looking at the trade now, it basically comes out to Rick Nash, Dorsett, Brassard, and Moore, for Gaborik, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Erixon and a 1st round pick which is hard to judge. Nash is more of a complete player than Gaborik and the other players are all very similar to each other. The 1st round pick probably gives Columbus an advantage but in the end, both teams made some major changes that could end up being a win for each side. Gaborik was at odds with Tortorella and this is another case of Sather doing what Tortorella wants, something that I mentioned the other day. For a coach who is sometimes mistakenly known to prefer North American players to European ones, he should be happy that he was able to acquire three Canadian players at the expense of a Slovakian. With this trade the Rangers got more more depth, grit, and toughness and will soley rely on all around scoring. The Blue Jackets have also made a statement to the rest of the league that they can attract big names and are still in the playoff hunt.

Jarome Iginlina and Brandon Morrow to the Pens
- For a team that is in first place and was riding what ended up being a 15 game winning streak, acquiring two captains who have been with one team their entire careers, was huge. Both players have been all-stars and have put up very solid numbers. All the pressure is on the Penguins and anything short of a Stanley Cup will be deemed a failure.

Sens and Lightning swap Conacher and Bishop
- The Senators have ben plagued with injuries to their major players, and Conacher has been brought in to add some scoring and speed, to what is already a quick team. He has had a good rookie season with the Lightning and he ironically has more points than anyone on the Senators roster. Bishop on the other hand can help address Tampa's goaltending issues.

Pominville sent to the Wild
- The Buffalo Sabres continued their selling ways and sent Captain Jason Pominville to the Minnessotta Wild. For a team who was started finding their way and advancing the standings, the Wild have improved immensely with the acquisition of Poiminville. The Sabres on the other hand were dealt  young players, one of the whom is a goalie. Picking up a young goalie might signal that management is prepping to use Ryan Miller as possible trade bait over the next year.

Ryan Clowe to the New York Rangers
- The Rangers finally got the player they needed - no, not another goal scorer, but someone who will be able to replace the Brandon Prust role. Clowe has been a 20 goal scorer and a heart and soul player for the Sharks. The Rangers shouldn't expect huge numbers for him, but a player of his caliber will still be a huge addition to a team that is having trouble finding last seasons gritty identity.

Torres and Hannan to San Jose
- After sending long-time Sharks players, Douglas Murray and Ryan Clowe, out east, the Sharks immediately replaced both with similar players. To see whether either of these aquistions bring a huge change to the team remains to be seen, but it could end up being a wash.

Steve Mason to the Flyers.
- And the goaltending carousel continues in the city of Brotherly Love. No, this is not to say that Brzygalov is being replaced, but Steve Mason could provide some extra motivation for Mr. Universe to play better. He will also play a decent back-up role and is just another goalie in the organization.

Wade Redden  and Jaromir Jagr to Beantown
- After getting another chance at NHL action with the St. Louis Blues, Wade Redden is on the move again. He comes to the Bruins as a depth defensemen and gets to once again play with his former teammate Zdeno Chara. Another player who got back into NHL action (he was in KHL exile, not AHL) was Jaromir Jagr. After playing for the first time in his career on a Western Conference team with Dallas, Jagr is coming back to east, this time playing for the Boston Bruins. As long as he does not disrupt chemistry and plays his game, he will be a huge help for a team that is great already.
